Monsters vs

Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space is a Halloween special that premiered on RTÉ One on October 26, 2009. It is premiered on NBC in the USA on October 28, 2009.

Plot[]

Susan and the fellow monsters go back to Susan's home just in time for Halloween celebrations. Susan spends time with her parents, while the other monsters join in trick-or-treating and collect a large amount of candies. Later, it is revealed that the monsters came to destroy mutant pumpkins hidden in the halloween decorations. When the pumpkins begin to eat children's candies to grow larger (this Dr. Cockroach had revealed, "It's not the children they're after, it's the candy!"), the monsters and children defeat them by throwing excessive candies to bloat them up and explode them.

However, in a twist ending, some of the pumpkin "blood" (a green goo) falls into a planting of carrots, making a mutant carrot be formed.

Trivia[]

  • Wicked Jack is obviously a play on Jack O'Lantern.
  • In this film, the base where the monsters stay in looks completely different compared to what was shown in Monsters vs. Aliens, they now live together in one huge room.
  • The Daughter refers to Link as "Kermit" from The Muppets Show (1976).
  • Link and Dr. Cockroach ride to the Murphy's home using a bike, with Dr. Cockroach wrapped in a blanket, resembling E.T. from E.T. the Extraterrestrial (1982).
  • The film takes place months after Monsters vs. Aliens (2009).
  • Susan's parents dress up as Frankenstein and his bride.
  • This film, along with it's sequel Night of the Living Carrots, is part of the Dreamworks Spooky Stories movie collection.
  • The "Children of the Candy Corn" field display is a nod to Children of the Corn (1984).
  • The old woman who answers her door for B.O.B. resembles Nana from Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
  • Director Peter Ramsey voices Farmer Jeb and the father who took Wicked Jack.
  • The Missing Link actually does an impression of his inspiration, the Amphibian Man, from Creature of the Black Lagoon (1954). Although B.O.B. mistakens the title as Creature from the "Blue" Lagoon, instead of saying "black".
  • Insectosaurus appears in the film for less than a minute.
  • President Hathaway appears as a portrait in the film.
  • Rainn Wilson returns to voice Wicked Jack, the film's main antagonist after he voiced Gallaxhar.
  • The song playing when Carl and Wendy are dancing is 'Monster Mash' by Bobby Boris Pickett, a well known song for Halloween.
  • Three kids who are dressed up as a devil, a hotdog and a cat can be seen when helping the monsters fight off Wicked Jack. They look similar to the kids who threw young Dr. Cockroach into the trash in his flashback story. In the ending, he gives his swirly pop to the girl dressed up as the cat.
  • This TV special is the closest to having a sequel for Monsters vs. Aliens (2009).
  • This is the Second feature in the franchise to take place in Modesto, after Monsters vs. Aliens.
  • Reese Witherspoon's second time playing Susan aka Ginormica, after Monsters vs. Aliens.
  • The man walking out of the pumpkin farm's ringtone was the Halloween theme song.
  • When The Missing Link rings the doorbell in his first house, the wife who opens the door mistakens him for Shrek, another Dreamworks 'monster' from the Shrek franchise.
  • When B.O.B. communicates with one of the pumpkins, the pumpkin says horrible things about his mother, who was a tomato before his birth.
  • The soundtrack from Psycho (1960) can be heard at the end when the zombie carrot rises from the ground.
  • When Dr. Cockroach brings out his candy shooter, he says Scarface's line "Say Hello to my little friend" from Scarface (1983).
  • At one point, The Missing Link rings a door to meet three kids dressed up as himself, Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., and B.O.B..
  • The shapes that B.O.B. transforms into include: Beach ball, snow ball, melted snowball, Solar System, and Fat Elvis Presley.
